10007 Tribeca loft living inspiration
A project which recently caught the eye is this beautifully pared back loft apartment in Tribeca, New York. Often, loft apartments are associated with crisp stainless steel structures and perfect lines - but here’s an apartment which veers towards natural wooden surfaces and emphasises the industrial heritage of the building.
The apartment is a conversion space within a 19th Century brick building on the Westside Highway in Tribeca. It’s simple, pared back aesthetic is made stunning with it’s honest use of wood throughout - giving the space warmth and appeal. Not usually one for a timber beam ceiling - this apartment calls for an exception. The approach to the renovation greatly appeals to our tastes.
“The renovation by Workstead consisted of a complete overhaul of the apartment, with new flooring, walls, millwork and furniture. The original ceilings were uncovered during the restoration and a new kitchen was installed with custom zinc panels, designed to reflect the light of the Hudson River below.” - De La Espada
Whilst the brick walls of the building are simply rendered with a warm tone of white paint, one of the standout design features of the apartment has to be the white oak bench and custom radiator cover which runs the entire length of the space. The living and sleeping spaces are, in addition, separated out via the use of wooden framed, glass sliding doors.
The elegant, honest chairs and coffee table have been created by Brooklyn-based furniture designer Asher Israelow, whilst the pleasingly angular sofa has been supplied via Autoban. Note the wooden back and elegant height.
“Minimal in approach, but rich in materials, the apartment is a reflection of the context of the building , and the landscape just outside.” - De La Espada
A striking and beautiful approach to the renovation of an industrial building, we think this is a standout apartment to the usual context of a loft space, and a stunning exploration of wooden materials.
